3 Easy & Magical Christmas Crafts for Kids (That Don’t Make a Huge Mess)
Ho ho ho!
There’s a special kind of magic that happens when you sit down with a child to create something for Christmas. The world slows down, little hands get busy, and you make a memory that lasts far longer than the time it takes for the glue to dry.
Here at the North Pole, my elves are always getting creative. But I’ve noticed that some of them (I won't name names, Sparkletoes!) can leave the workshop looking like a glitter blizzard has swept through! So, I asked my tidiest elves for their favorite crafts that are big on fun and small on fuss.
Here are three of their very best low-mess ideas for you to enjoy with your own little helpers.
1. The Cheerful Paper Plate Santa

Elf Tip: This one is a classic for a reason! Using a glue stick instead of liquid glue is the secret to keeping it tidy.
What You'll Need:
-
A paper plate
-
Red construction paper (for the hat)
-
Cotton balls
-
A black marker or crayon
-
A glue stick
-
Scissors (for grown-up hands!)
How to Make It:
-
Cut a triangle from the red paper to be Santa's hat. Glue it to the top of the paper plate.
-
Use the glue stick to add a cotton ball to the tip of the hat and a line of them along the hat's brim.
-
Create Santa's big, fluffy beard by gluing more cotton balls to the bottom half of the plate.
-
Use your black marker to draw two twinkling eyes and a happy smile in the space between the hat and the beard. Ho ho ho, instant Santa!
2. Pipe Cleaner Candy Cane Ornaments

Elf Tip: This is a wonderful activity for helping little fingers with their fine motor skills, and there is absolutely zero cleanup!
What You'll Need:
-
Red and white pipe cleaners
How to Make It:
-
Take one red and one white pipe cleaner.
-
Hold them together at one end and twist them around each other to create a striped pattern.
-
When you reach the other end, twist the tips together to secure them.
-
Bend the top of the twisted pipe cleaner into a "hook" shape. That's it! You have a beautiful, unbreakable candy cane ornament ready for the tree.
3. The Easiest Reindeer Headband

Elf Tip: My reindeer love seeing little ones wear these! All you need is paper and a stapler or tape—it’s pure, simple fun.
What You'll Need:
-
Brown construction paper
-
Tape or a stapler
-
Scissors
How to Make It:
-
Cut two long strips of brown paper, about 2 inches wide.
-
Measure them around your child's head and tape or staple them together to form a circle that fits comfortably.
-
On another piece of brown paper, have your child trace their hands. These will be the antlers!
-
Cut out the hand tracings and tape or staple them to the front of the headband. Your little one is now an official member of the reindeer team!
I hope these ideas bring a little bit of the North Pole's creative spirit into your home. The most important part of any craft, after all, isn't the final product—it's the magical memories you make while spending time together.
Happy crafting!
